Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player

Western Digital has just introduced the WD TV HD Media Player which is considered to be one of most advanced home entertainment devices. Home owners are creating and accumulating more multimedia and most people store them in their PCs or any other storage device.

The main disadvantage is that the various forms of home multimedia are stored in different places and this can be very inconveniencing. With this new device from Western Digital, it is now possible to use your USB drive like a media player. The WD TV HD media player supports different file formats and it retails at about 200 pounds. It allows you to access your multimedia files on your TV without connecting it to a PC. It is attached to the TV and is able to read video, audio and photo files.

This WD TV HD media player has a remote and is connected to the TV through composite AV cables or HDMI. It can work with external hard drives and thumb drives without any problem. The only connectivity option that is available on the WD TV HD media player is USB therefore you cannot use flash media readers, FireWire or eSATA. This device allows you to plug in 2 USB devices at the same time. The content you have in the drives will be displayed on the device’s on-screen menu.

WD TV HD media player has a media converter that allows you to convert your music, video and photos files into a format that can be used on the device. It also makes it possible or you to playback full HD videos of a maximum of 10180p. The photo file formats that are supported by the device include PNG, BMP, GIF, JPEG and TIF/TIFF. The video file formats the device supports include Subtitle SRT (UTF-8), MOV (MPEG4, H.264), MKV, H.264, AVI (MPEG4, Xvid, AVC), WMV9 and MPEG1/2/4. The audio file formats that can be played on this device include WPL, M3U, MKA Playlist PLS, AIF/AIFF, Dolby Digital, FLAC, AAC, WAV/PCM/LPCM, OGG, WMA and MP3.

The WD TV HD media player setup is good but it takes time before the files load on the device. The picture quality produced by the device is good on small TVs but it is limited when you try to blow up pictures on larger TVs. High-resolution files that are not compressed look better when you are using the device.

When it comes to compatibility, the device can play back different types of video files but not all audio files can be played back. It has an on-screen interface that is easy to use and you can use the remote to go through all the entertainment choices that are available on the animated menus. One of the main aspects that make the WD TV HD media player stand out from the rest is that there is no limit on how large your multimedia collection should be because all you need to do is to add USB drives to provide more space. It also supports various languages including English, Spanish, German, French and Italian.
