Sony Vaio Laptop Range Review

Whilst Apple may have the Mac OSX range of Macbooks tantalising people and trying to convert them from a Windows platform laptop, Sony are fighting the good fight for the opposing side with the Vaio Range of laptops which are all about form and function, style and substance, and the Vaio moniker is an umbrella brand which covers three key ranges of portable PC products which are themselves divided up into several diverse subcategories, so we’ll have a little look at what all three have to offer.

Sony Vaio Lifestyle Range

The lifestyle models of the Vaio Range are designed to be the best all round laptop choice for people who will mostly be using their Vaio in the home or at work for various multi-tasking operations, as well as breaking the mould and allowing you to express your individuality through a variety of styles, ideal for coffee shop procrastinating and creativity. The CR Series of the Lifestyle Range is available in four colours each with a few gradients of tone to provide real uniqueness.

Models come with 200-250 GB hard drive, which is very impressive for such slim designs, and also feature 14.1 inch crystal clear displays that we’ve come to expect from Vaio products. Powered by dual core Intel Centrino Duo processors and with ATI Radeon mobility graphics cards you can have several programs running at once without taxing the Lifestyle Range too much.

Adobe Photoshop Elements can come pre-installed for certain models which is great if you’re into imaging and photo editing, and Windows Vista Home Premium is pre-installed as well to ensure that your Vaio is compatible with all the latest software today and in the future – despite Vista being the marmite of the operating system world.

Sony Vaio Mobility Range

To keep up with the current trend of ultra-portable laptops which are designed for use as web books rather than media or gaming powerhouses, with low power consumption and miniature form factor size, Sony has introduced the Z series to the Mobility range of Vaio laptops that it offers. Weighing in at only 1.5 KG but also proving to be very strong thanks to a carbon fibre chassis, some models of the Z Series also include built in 3G internet connectivity, allowing you to connect to a mobile broadband internet connection anywhere in the world without the need for an additional mobile broadband USB dongle.

Mobile broadband is becoming increasingly popular and widespread thanks to the new ultra-fast 3G mobile networking signals that most mobile providers offer, and if you travel around a lot but still want to take your broadband connection with you then this little gadget that is pre-installed within the body of the Z Series will really come in handy.

All important battery life can be extended through a power-saving Stamina Mode and the 13.1 inch screen is capable of an incredible 1600×900 resolution, very impressive for such a small screen. The Z series are not in any way hampered by their size, and are available with the same dual core Intel processors as their larger stable mates. You even have the option of a 250GB hard drive, which is ideal for storing and saving files whilst you’re on the move. All in all the Z Series of the Mobility range of Vaio laptops show that you needn’t compromise on performance if you’re going for a small system size.

Sony Vaio Multimedia Range

The modern home is becoming more and more multimedia based, and items within the home are subsequently becoming more and more unified in their platforms and compatible with one another, so that using your TV to watch or stream files from your home PC, Laptop or file server is a much more common thing, and multimedia flexibility is an essential component to any laptop worth its salt.

The AW series of the Multimedia range of Vaio laptops goes for cutting edge media capabilities and power that are relevant and useable in the modern home entertainment environment. The most notable of its specifications is its full HD display, which can display resolutions of up to 1940×1080 on its 18.1 inch screen. This is truly an impressive feat and something to behold. It also features a Blu-Ray disc reader/writer for watching and burning HD content, a whopping 4GB of DDR2 RAM and an incredible 640GB of storage space spread across two 320Gb hard drives.
