Sony KDL-40W4500 Technical Specs
The KDL-40W4500 may not have the most attractive name, but hidden within those numbers are clues to its impressive specifications. It has a 40 inch display, capable of showing content in the full HD resolution of 1080p, something which is not offered by most smaller screens, and a feature that is essential if you want to get the most out of your HD content.
It also features the BRAVIA 2 engine which is an industry leading set of technologies that ensure the best picture is squeezed from whatever input you choose to view through the KDL-40W4500. The BRAVIA 2 engine is able to offer such clarity and depth of colour across the board because it utilises digital signal processing to enhance many of the inputs and unify the quality of its output image.
The KDL-40W4500 also spoils you for choice in terms of inputs. It features 3 HDMI ports for connecting your Blu-Ray player for HD movies or your HD games console, and also features an intelligent system which can recognise when an HDMI cable is being used to connect a PC with an HDMI output to optimise the screen’s performance in desktop conditions.
A PC or laptop can also be connected via the D-SUB connection with audio jack, and on top of the HD inputs there are also composite video, SCART and RF inputs to help connect all of your older devices. On top of all these inputs there is also a USB port and a PCIMA card reader, which means that you can connect a USB memory stick or a flash memory card with pictures, music or videos on it and then use the KDL-40W4500 to view and play back the content.
The KDL-40W4500 has exhaustive photographic capabilities, with the 6.2 megapixel display really doing justice to your digital snaps and with the option to use the screen as a large digital photo frame, cycling through happy memories.
The KDL-40W4500 also come with a built in free to air digital terrestrial decoder, allowing you to watch over 40 digital channels for free in standard definition without the need for a separate decoder box. The final weapon in the KDL-40W4500’s input arsenal is the 24P True Cinema capabilities. This allows movies that were shot and designed to be shown in their original 24 frames per second to be viewed correctly on your television at 24fps, and not at the 25fps standard that is employed across digital media such as DVD. This is a feature that movie buffs will be most excited about, and really adds to the overall cinematic experience and capabilities of the KDL-40W4500.
The TV’s impressive specifications are topped off with two 10 watt speakers, with the option to connect your TV to your home cinema system via phono or digital optical outputs. The standard speakers also come with Sony’s front surround technology that through clever positioning and sound interpretation can mimic real surround sound systems.
Another clever feature called voice zoom allows you to alter the volume of voices without changing the volume of the background noise, which is great if the film or show is unevenly balanced.
Sony KDL-40W4500 – Living With It
The great thing about the Sony KDL-40W4500 is that it really tries to integrate itself into your home and be as compatible and interactive as possible. With the BRAVIA sync system you can use the TV remote to control all of your other Sony home entertainment products, from your surround sound to your handycam, which means you can get rid of all your other remotes that clutter up tables and sofas.
The other great piece of innovation within the KDL-40W4500 is the fact that it can be connected to your home network and share media that is stored on your PC, provided that you have compatible software and hardware. It is really a media powerhouse that tries to leave no stone unturned, but be aware that you’ll pay for all this functionality, but ultimately be rewarded by a TV that will last for years.
