The Sony HDR-SR8E combines stylish design with all the latest Sony technology to produce a camcorder that ticks all the right boxes. Despite being one of the smallest and lightest AVCHD hard disk Sony camcorders, this model offers up to 38 hours of High Definition 1080i recording (in LP mode) making it even easier and more rewarding to shoot footage wherever you are. This incredible shooting capacity is possible due to Sony’s AVCHD compression technology, which allows long recording durations at perfect High Definition quality. In addition, variable Bit Rate recording alters bit rates during shooting to balance optimal picture quality with maximum storage efficiency ensuring you capture footage of the best quality.

With a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 10x optical zoom lens, the Sony HDR-SR8E camcorder effortlessly brings far subjects closer without compromising picture quality. The Super SteadyShot optical image stabilisation technology produces crisp and clear images during still shooting, whilst also improving picture stability when shooting footage in the slow shutter mode. The x.v.Colour technology ensures wonderful life-like colour reproduction; x.v.Colour doubles the colour range, making your videos stand out with vivid and expressive tonal reproduction. You will be amazed by the fine detail and clarity of your footage when viewing on an xvYCC compliant television.
The Latest Sony Technology
At the heart of the Sony HDR-SR8E is a ClearVid CMOS sensor with Enhanced Imaging Processor, which increases the dynamic range and reduces smear. This is teamed with the camcorder’s high sensitivity (minimum illumination of just 2 lux with Auto Slow Shutter “ON”) to ensure you can continue shooting in twilight or poorly-lit conditions. You can also capture high-quality still images with up to 6.1 Megapixel resolution, or 4.6 Megapixels if shooting in Dual Rec mode, which will not interrupt video shooting.
Faster Scene Search
The intelligent Sony HDR-SR8E makes it easy to find specific scenes in seconds through a selection of indexing options. ‘Visual Index’ divides your footage into convenient chapters based on every press of the Record Start button, and creates thumbnail images which are displayed on the camcorder’s touch-screen. ‘Film Roll Index’ automatically creates index points at user-defined intervals from 3 seconds to 5 minutes – simply press the ‘Film Roll’ button. Film Roll Index searches can also be performed on your PC using the Picture Motion Browser software (included). When using your PC you can also use ‘Highlight’ Searches to find brightly-lit, colourful scenes with voices – great for finding beach or poolside shots and other special events.
The Sony Face Index Functionality
The pioneering ‘Face Index’ utilises Sony’s Face Detection Technology to make it easy to search ‘people pictures’ within a scene of continuously shot footage. The HDR-SR8E will automatically identify scenes containing faces and will produce thumbnail images, so you can simply browse scenes featuring friends and family.
