Sony HDR-HC7E Camcorder Review
The Sony HDR-HC7E High Definition Handycam
With extraordinary image quality and a range of impressive features, this camcorder is ideal for capturing and reliving special memories in High Definition. Designed for both beginners and enthusiasts, the HDR-HC7E is easy-to-use whether you opt for the automatic or manually-controlled settings to create the perfect video.
Superb Image Quality
The Sony HDR-HC7E combines outstanding HDV 1080i image quality with the convenience and affordability of miniDV tape. The ClearVid CMOS Sensor provides exceptional picture resolution and enhanced sensitivity, plus a wider dynamic range and reduced smear; whilst the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens allows you to capture 6.1 Megapixel images in Still Image Recording mode, with up to 10x Optical Zoom and 20x Digital Zoom.
Sony’s ‘Super SteadyShot’ optical image stabilisation technology ensures blur-free images, particularly when shooting in low light without a tripod. The Auto Slow Shutter function automatically boosts the minimum illumination performance to 2 lux and the Super NightShot setting even allow for shooting in conditions down to 0 lux.
Colour Compatible
Sony’s x.v.Colour technology complies with xvYCC (eXtended Video YCC), to nearly double the range of colours that are accurately reproduced by the HDR-HC7E, to cover almost 100 percent of natural colours. By closely matching the natural characteristics of the human eye, x.v.Colour offers more vivid, authentic reds, blues and greens beyond the limitations of the conventional sRGB colour space. The x.v.Colour technology is compatible with televisions that support the xvYCC standard so you can experience beautifully processed videos.
2.7-inch wide Clear Photo LCD Plus Screen
The Sony HDR-HC7E has a large flip-out LCD screen that is perfect for composing and reviewing your shots – even when using the camcorder outdoors in bright ambient light. The Clear Photo LCD plus technology offers a broader colour range and improved contrast so you can review clear and precise footage of your videos. Additional zoom and recording start/stop buttons can be found on the frame of the LCD screen so you can easily operate the camcorder at waist height or from on top of a tripod.
Manual Functionality
For more experienced videographers, the HC7E functions can be manually controlled using the Assignable Dial, including the focus, exposure, shutter speed and white balance. For complete flexibility, you can switch between HDV and DV recording, and use the Dual Rec function to simultaneously capture high resolution still photographs whilst recording movie footage. In addition, fast-moving action can be captured in Smooth Slow Rec at 200 frames per second, for smooth slow motion playback with sound.
Full HD Capabilities
With full 1080-line HD resolution, the Sony HDR-HC7E can be connected directly to any HD Ready television via the HDMI connector so you can enjoy your videos and still images in wonderful depth and clarity. The iLINK cable and software (included) lets you edit your footage on a connected PC, so you can create your perfect movie.
