Sony HDR-FX7E Camcorder Review
The Sony HDR FX7E High Definition Camcorder
Capture and enjoy exceptional quality videos with Sony’s HDV camcorder, featuring a new 3clearVid CMOS Sensor system for higher resolution shots and enhanced colour reproduction. Teamed with an Enhanced Imaging Processor and the incredible Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 20x optical zoom lens, this camcorder produces High Definition pictures that will take your breath away.
3ClearVid CMOS Sensor System
The Sony HDR-FX7E is the first camcorder to utilise the clever 3ClearVid CMOS Sensor, which uses a new pixel distribution to produce increase picture resolution, boost sensitivity (4 lux minimum), and enhance colour accuracy. The Sensor rotates pixels at a 45 degree angle which doubles the area of each pixel whilst maintaining the same pixel pitch as a conventional pixel layout. With a total resolution of 1,120,000 pixels, the 3ClearVid CMOS Sensor also uses a prism to direct light onto three independent imagers: one for each primary colour (RGB); the results are vivid images with incredibly natural colour reproduction.
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T Lens
The Sony HDR-FX7E’s acclaimed Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens allows the user to confidently shoot crisp and clear images at up to 20x optical zoom (equivalent to 37.4 – 748mm). Unwanted reflections on the lens surface are reduced by the advanced T optical multi-layer coating which helps to decrease flare and ghosting for even sharper, higher quality images. Special Extra Low Dispersion glass minimises chromatic aberration, particularly at high zoom settings.
Digital Extender Zoom
In addition to the wide optical zoom range, the Sony HDR-FX7E features a Digital Extender which enlarges the recorded video image by approximately 1.5 times and increases the effective zoom range by up to 30x times. Two independent neutral density filters (1/4 and 1/16 filter) adjust the amount of light entering the lens, which is useful when shooting in bright sunlight to ensure your images are perfectly exposed. To make sure your shots are crisp and blur-free, the Super SteadyShot optical image stabiliser reduces the effects of handshake, even when shooting at high zoom settings.
Advanced Functionality
The Sony HDR-FX7E is designed for experienced videographers and features a range of advanced settings, including Smooth Slow Rec which captures six-second ‘bursts’ of images at 200 fields/second; these can then be replayed at normal speed to create 24 seconds of highly detailed slow-motion. Users can also manually control the zoom, focus, white balance, shutter speed and other functions to allow for even greater creativity.
3.5-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus Screen
The high-resolution (211,200 dots) 3.5-inch LCD screen includes Clear Photo LCD plus technology to provide wonderful contrast and accurate colour reproduction. The widescreen can be tilted and swivelled allowing the user to easily view the screen in any shooting position.
