Siemens

Siemens is a European engineering and manufacturing firm with a long history. Its roots can be traced back over 60 years to when its German homeland was known as Prussia and it still has headquarters in Berlin. Siemens began life as a telegraph firm, enabling long distance communications between key destinations in Europe. It was Siemens that created the first street lighting powered by electricity, which it installed in the UK town of Godalming.

The firm continued to grow into the 20th century and after the Second World War it branched out its operations to include computing and home electronic devices. This included everything from washing machines to advanced telephony systems and it has continued to diversify its operations by acquiring various smaller firms in fields such as avionics and energy production.

Siemens may be best known to the general public as a producer of telephone handsets for both fixed line and mobile services. One of its many world firsts came in 1997 when it created a mobile phone that sported a colour screen, making the monochromatic displays of the past obsolete. Siemens has gone into partnership with many other firms over the years, including Fujitsu and Benq, although the former has bought back Siemens’ share in its computer business recently.

For consumers, Siemens produces products which fall into six distinct categories and we will now take a look at the kinds of devices which you might consider buying yourself. Siemens may no longer have control over its own consumer computing firm, since selling up to Fujitsu, but it still has close ties to the manufacturer and offers it support to all of its products. People who have previously bought computers under the Fujitsu Siemens brand can still get help and advice from Fujitsu with Siemens’ backing.

Siemens Gigaset Cordless Phones

Siemens creates a whole range of cordless phones and digital media products intended for home use. Its Gigaset cordless phone range is an example of its forward thinking philosophy, as it uses Bluetooth wireless technology, allowing simple synchronisation of data between multiple devices around your home. This means you can transfer contact information from a PC or smartphone over to your Siemens cordless home phone with minimal effort.

Siemens VoIP Phones

Siemens is also behind a range of intelligent internet-based phones that can be used in conjunction with VoIP services to give you free calls to other VoIP customers via a broadband connection. This means that you no longer need to use a computer to make calls online and some even allow for instant messaging and emailing from the palm of your hand.

Siemens is not solely concerned with cordless technology, as products such as the 5040 Corded Phone prove. Its corded range is designed for business users and comes with professional designs and advanced features that you might not expect to find.

Siemens Home Appliances

Siemens creates home appliances for every room of the house. Most notable is its range of kitchen goods, including cooking and cleaning. It even makes coffee machines and it has an extensive selection of fridges, freezers and combination devices to fit homes of all sizes.

Although Siemens has not built its reputation on artful designs, its products for the home tend to be attractive as well as functional, but there is no need to compromise in either area if you are looking for a modern electrical device. Siemens has home security systems which it can install in your property if you want to safeguard all that you own. As well as basic alarm systems, you can set up Siemens motion sensors, remotely modifiable settings and exhaustive internal control panels. Siemens also creates standalone devices made to detect and protect you against harmful eventualities including smoke, floods and gas leaks.

For the full Siemens experience in your home, the firm also produces lighting solutions which fall under its OSRAM brand. This has come to indicate energy efficiency and safety and it has also allowed Siemens’ owned firms to become the most prolific provider of automotive lighting in the world, which means you can brighten up your day on the road or at home with Siemens’ products. Siemens can be called upon when you are considering how to wire up your house, whether you are performing renovations or beginning a new build.

As well as offering installation of electrical systems, Siemens also has a building management arm, which you can use to take advantage of the full complement of its installation services for sockets, switches and control panels of every kind. Siemens continues to innovate across all of its various arms and it has as much to offer consumers as it does its larger corporate clients, from the smallest gadgets to the biggest building projects.

What I love most about Siemens phones is that they are well made and look good. They are expensive when compared with cheap alternatives banged out by Vtech and Uniden in particular, but as always you get what you pay for.
