The phone makes use of Polycom’s innovative full-duplex technology and produces voice quality that is much louder with twice the microphone sensitivity of the previous version. Individuals using the conference phone also have the privilege of being able to switch between handset and conference call mode while conversing. Using that feature does not require a mobile phone line as the call is sent through a mobile network, providing maximum portability as well as functionality.

The Soundstation2W Wireless also comes with fully upgradeable software which means it can be connected directly to PBXs that support GAP, which is the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) standard. This enables usage of the conference phone anywhere in the building without the need of an analogue extension or the Polycom DECT base station. The slightly more expensive Polycom SoundStation 2W Wireless Expandable makes it possible to have larger meetings of up to 12 participants by allowing the connection of two expansion microphones which are connected using 1.8 metre long cables.
