Polycom SoundStation IP 7000

The Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 is a the brilliant new IP conference phone from market leaders, Polycom.

As you would expect, it’s packed full of features that are the de rigour of any professional office. The IP 7000 sits comfortably in board rooms and executive offices. Hmm, note to self, keep this one if Polycom don’t ask for it back!

It is designed for use with a broad array of SIP-based VoIP platforms and features Polycom’s leading SIP phone software and a cutting edge design.

Polycom HD Voice Technology

The IP 7000 includes Polycom HD voice, which helps to deliver outstanding call clarity – this is one of the best IP conference phones we’ve reviewed. The 7000 delivers high fidelity audio, in a range from 160Hz to 22kHz which means deeper voices and higher pitched voices are heard with equal quality. It might sound techy but these things are important on an everyday practical level – you try the boss they can’t be heard because their voice is too squeeky .. go on, didn’t think so – this is where the IP 7000 helps above other models.

If you call another phone that does not support HD voice the call will be in narrowband rather than wideband.

Polycom Acoustic Clarity

With full duplex technology both sides of the call can talk at the same time without any distracting drop-outs or clipped speech. Great for heated arguments!

The SoundStation IP 7000 also features the latest echo cancellation technology, Automatic Gain Control which adjusts the microphone sensitivity dependant on where the participants are seated in the meeting room and even a technology that resists interference from mobile phones and other wireless devices.

Expansion Capabilities

Given that this is a top-of-the-range conference phone, it is likely to be used in Board Rooms. These tend to be large rooms and as such, you will need your conference phone to be expandable. This means you will need to add additional microphones.

A large microphone has a range of upto 20 feet, which is plenty for a normal room with 3 or 4 people. However, the SoundStation IP 7000 allows you to link upto two IP 7000 units together to deliver an increased microphone pick up range.

With a modern and truly distinctive design, the Polycom SoundStation IP 7000 is sure to compliment any meeting room. The IP 7000 features a large multi line high resolution LCD display with a full XHTML microbrowser for reading web pages.

For instances where no network connectivity is available its built in 2.5mm application port allows you tether the conference system to a mobile phone or alternatively to a computer for calls using softphones.

There are a range of functions available through the multilingual interface and selection of these is made easy through the directional navigation wheel. You have a full telephone12 key keypad with speed dial, redial, mute, call waiting and call transfer to name but a few. Set up is easy, you simply connect the IP 7000 into your data network and then customise your settings.

The Polycom IP 7000 is supplied with and without power supply unit (PSU) as it can either be run power over Ethernet POE, or via its own power source.
