Plantronics CS60 Wireless Headset
The Plantronics CS60 is a wireless headset system but, unlike similar systems, it is positioned between your landline phone and its corded handset, and the type of phone – DECT, VoIP, etc – is selected from a dial.
Incoming calls are transferred to the headset using DECT technology – the so-called IntelliStand™ feature automatically senses when the headset is in use, that is removed from its cradle, lifts the handset and directs the call to the headset – so that you can roam freely, or relatively freely, around your home or office whilst on the phone.
The great advantage of the DECT system – which is also used for most domestic cordless phones – over a wireless networking technology, such as Blutetooth, is its range. Bluetooth ® is only effective over a range of 32 feet, or so, but the Plantronics CS60 is typically effective over 150 ft indoors and 300 ft outdoors.
The Plantronics CS60, of course, does not have a keypad – it is a headset – so if want to make an outgoing call this does necessitate dialling from a handset before transferring the call to the headset.
The Plantronics CS60 also comes in a USB compatible version for easy connectivity and fast configuration of VoIP softphone applications; it is, in fact, compatible with most major softphone applications. Installation, such as it is, is as simple as plugging the Plantronics CS60 into a spare USB port on your computer, installing the PerSonoCall software, bundled with the headset, and selecting an appropriate softphone from a list.
The lightweight headset is designed more like a monaural Bluetooth earpiece – albeit quite a large Bluetooth earpiece – than a conventional DECT headset and can be worn comfortably over the ear, in two different headband styles, and, uniquely, behind the neck. A single charge of the replaceable battery in the Plantronics CS60 headset is typically sufficient for 9 hours continuous talk time and, therefore, adequate for a full business day, even if the user is barely off the phone. As soon as the headset is replaced in its cradle, the battery starts to charge and an indicator light on the cradle alerts you to the current state of the battery.
The Plantronics CS60 headset can, of course, be used in conjunction with the Plantronics HL10 Lifter, which automatically senses when the phone is ringing and allows you to answer or terminate calls from wherever you are in your office, or home, with just a single button push. A motorised arm lifts the phone handset off the hook activating the phone, and allowing you to answer calls remotely. The HL10 Lifter fits under the handset of an existing phone so no additional desk space is required.
