Panasonic SDR S26 Camcorder

Buying a camcorder has never been an easy job. There are always too many competing formats available to pick from and get confused. For a first time buyer this could be a nightmare. Now when technology has advanced so much to give everything digital, camcorders are not lagging behind. Panasonic SDR S26 is one such camera.

One of the most talked about feature of camcorders has been the storage. From the old days of VHS we have stepped into the digital age. Still, we have a lot of choices, DVD, Mini-DV, hard-drive, SD etc. This camcorder is a SD memory model. The real advantage of having a small memory chip, such as, SD card is that it makes the camcorder really mobile as opposed to using moving parts of a DVD or hard-drive. Recording on your SD card will process as silently as you can imagine. Another advantage that a SD card memory gives you is the size of the camera. It’s tinier than you think.

Well, it might not be the only camcorder that’ll neatly fit into your pocket. It has some standout features that make it different. For starters it has a 2.7-inch fold out LCD screen and a joystick-driven menus system. One of the main talking points of the camcorder is its high 70x optical zoom.

Storage wise you can store up to 50 minutes on a top XP mode on a 4 GB SD card. If you go down to a LP mode you can get up to 26 hours on a 32 GB SD card. Now that’s pretty impressive for a SD card storage if you can get up to full 26 hours without needing to empty or replace your SD card. Now when storage technology is upgrading every day you can be sure of the fact that SD cards will get fatter and fatter so you can be rest assured that you’ll never run out of space.

Ideally this is a great little camera to shoot low-resolution videos. Both in terms of storage capacity and zoom functionality it makes a great tool for capturing images to put online. You can shoot tons of stuff in low-res, which is perfect for web. As a matter of fact there is a Web Mode available that’ll automatically shoot videos in a web-suitable resolution.

Another great feature is the ability to upload clips directly onto your Youtube account. This is a handy feature for those web savvy people who like to share their videos online. The camcorder comes with a VideoCam Suite 2.0 software. The software not only helps you upload stuff to your PC but at the press of a button will upload YouTube compatible clips to the site.

Panasonic SDR SD26 has some in-built features, such as, face detection, colour night view, and pre-recording mode. This feature of Pre-Recording mode prevents you missing vital shots. It’ll keep three seconds of video in a buffer memory, so when you resume recording it starts form exactly where you stopped down to the last frame.
