Previous PSP Go Console News

The Internet rumour mill has this week latched on to a story one well known blog has started regarding the new Sony PSP 4000.

They loaded a podcast this week but quickly removed it, which highlighted that they had actually seen the new PSP. If true, one assumes that they were under strict instructions to keep the info to themselves, oops!

One interesting thing to come out of it was the name of the new PSP, which they claimed to be the Sony PSP Go! Console, rather than the internal Sony model name of PSP 4000.

As you know, Sony already have a range of PSP Go! accessories and as such the potential new name has some credibility, however, opinions on the name are mixed.

Sony PSP Go! Features

The new PSP Go! is believed to have a larger screen than the PSP 3000 and more excitingly, slide-out controls. However, we are not going to know for sure until full details are announced. The next major event that could possibly be used as a launch date is the E3 Expo in June.

The PSP Go! is rumoured to be losing it’s UMD game drive, and instead to favour gamers to download PSP games. If true, the new PSP will have to have some form of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth functionality.

The PSP Go! is also expected to come in 8GB and 16GB of flash memory, or even a 32GB version?

Given the spec of the new Nintendo DSi, you can also expect the PSP Go! to have a Camera and a screen size of around 800×480, with, hopefully, a touch-screen.

New PSP Launch Date

On the basis that Sony announce details this Summer, the new PSP could be launched in Japan later this year with the US following before Christmas. This makes a pre Christmas launch in the UK difficult, unless Sony launch in the UK at the same time as the US, which is not how they normally do it. Having said that, a post Christmas UK launch misses a huge commercial opportunity.
