NEC Phones

For small and medium enterprises, NEC is currently working in partnership with Philips to offer converged communication solutions and products.

Its flagship service in this market is the Univerge SV8500, which is intended to function as an all-in-one data and communications solution. It supports up to 4000 users, but because it is mostly virtualised, it is fully scalable to meet the needs of expanding businesses.

The Univerge platform consists of four tiers of technology, with a rack-mounted hub operating as a central control unit with compatibility with IP and analogue communication technology.

After that fixed line, then cordless DECT and mobile devices and finally remote computing and messaging services, come together to make an internationally accessible working environment like no other.

NEC’s networked solutions go beyond telecommunications, as it also has expertise in the storage industry. Small storage facilities which are suitable for entry level requirements are available and whilst scalability is obviously an important feature here, NEC also prides itself on reliability. Downtime, data loss and inadequate storage space can all cost money and customers and businesses will be looking to increase their storage facilities if they want to keep up with the growing data requirements of the modern world.

Products such as the NEC NS Series storage are designed to support plug-and-play installation for easy augmentation at a later date and also have the necessary software to simplify the organisation and management of your data. In order to support its converged communications systems, NEC also produces a number of business phones designed for desktop and cordless use in call centres and offices of all types.

The NEC Aspire is an IP phone that also accepts analogue lines for backwards compatibility with traditional phone systems. It has a headset jack and a built-in speakerphone for multi-party conversations. It also has 12 fully customisable softkeys that can let you jump straight to your most dialled number, whether it is an internal extension or an outside number. It can also be mounted on the wall if you so choose.

When looking at any of NEC’s solutions and products, it is worth noting that support is not always universal between different systems. If you choose to use NEC as your main supplier for a phone system, it will often be sensible to opt for brand-assured products to use as part of that system. Although telecommunications devices are usually made to offer wide compatibility, it makes sense to opt for products that will definitely provide the best performance because they have been created to work with a specific phone system.
