LTE Broadband EPC Motorola WBC 700

Following on from our article on LTE Broadband, Motorola have today announced their LTE EPC WBC 700 solution – er, their what?!

Don’t you just love acronyms, no me neither! Right, here we go, LTE is Long Term Evolution, EPC is Evolved Packet Core and WBC is Wireless Broadband Core.

The Motorola WBC 700 solution is therefore an EPC solution comprised of Motorola’s mobility management entity (MME), packet and serving gateways (P-GW and S-GW). Feel free to add a comment to this article to expand upon this as we do not process to be experts on the details of this technology, yet.

The Motorola WBC 700 portfolio is intended to help meet the increase in subscriber demands for mobile broadband, and is planned for release in late 2009.

The EPC is a new foundation for next generation mobile broadband that provides a core network to support hosted applications, heavy multimedia content and high-speed Internet connectivity on the go.

Motorola were quoted as saying;

“LTE will be about personal media, with the ability to access all of your content, share it and take it with you wherever you go,” said Fred Gabbard, vice president, product management, Wireless Networks, Home & Networks Mobility. “Building upon Motorola’s mobile broadband experience in OFDM network deployments, Motorola’s WBC 700 portfolio completes our end-to-end LTE solution, enabling us to provide a seamless and flexible path to LTE with a high degree of future proofing for the service provider at a reduced cost of ownership.”
