Sony Playstation 3 Slim Console

May 18, 2009 by gadget · Leave a Comment

It looks like Sony are soon to release details of a new Playstation 3 console, the Sony PS3 Slim.

Early rumours suggested that the new Playstation may be the eagerly awaited PS4 console but this latest unconfirmed story appears to supercede that particular rumour. This of course means that the PS4 console is unlikely to be released in the near future.

With regard to the PS3 Slim news, this is much more likely, possibly even this year. A slim PS3 console would just be an extension of the other Playstation Slim consoles, following on from the PSOne, PS2 and of course the recent PSP Slim which came in PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 versions. No doubt therefore that there will also be a PSP 4000 version at some stage. Edit: Sony announced at the recent E3 Expo that the PSP 4000 will be called the PSP Go.

As far as possible features and specifications are concerned, don’t expect too much. The whole point is to offer the current PS3 in a slim and lite version rather than stuff it with new specifications. The new features will be saved for the PS4 Console.

What you may see is an extension from the current 80GB to 160GB but we are just speculating here. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Once these rumours are confirmed, we will be busy looking for places you can buy the new PS3 Slim, so check back soon – hopefully!

Nintendo Wii II

February 25, 2009 by gadget · Comments Off

Whilst we know that the Nintendo DS Lite is being replaced in April 2009 with the Nintendo DSi, we haven’t yet had official word of the name of the replacement for the number one best selling games console, the Nintendo Wii.

However, word reached the Gadget Heaven offices recently that the next Nintendo, after the DSi, to hit the shelves may be called the Nintendo Wii II, or Wii 2.

Hmm, not the most original name but then again, what else could they call it?

Xbox 720 Console

February 25, 2009 by gadget · Comments Off

Xbox 720 .. is this the name of the next generation Xbox?

Rumours are starting to circulate that it may indeed be the name of Microsoft’s replacement of the hugely popular Xbox 360, afterall, Xbox 360 2 or Xbox 360 II seems pretty lame.

Whilst the Xbox 360 is still very much at the forefront of the games console market, developers inside Microsoft are already working on the next generation of Xbox consoles. The responsibility for this falls on the shoulders of chief Microsoft designers such as Larry Yang, Jeff Andrews and Nick Baker.

From a consumers point of view, the Xbox 720, or whatever they call it, could do with including a blu-ray player to compete with the Sony PS4, but it’s a Sony development they are perhaps unlikely to want to pay a competitor for the privilege. Microsoft need to be looking at HDTV and perhaps even 3D TV.

However, as we look towards the next few years, the DVD format is likely to go the way of the CD, ie. nowhere. The Xbox 720, and PS4 for that matter, is likely to give rise to the more popular option of downloading games direct from the internet.

Given that the Xbox 720 isn’t due until 2011 or 2012, LTE Broadband should be established by then and as such the 720 will have to capitalise on this and with download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, sparks should fly.
