BT Studio 3500, 3100
BT Studio 3500
The BT Studio 3500 is an entry level cordless telephone, which, nevertheless, includes an answering machine. The answering machine is capable of storing up to 13 minutes of incoming messages, and allows you to record your own voice mail greetings, although two pre-recorded messages are also available already. Messages can be played back through a loudspeaker in the base, or privately, through the handset, if need be. A memo function, allowing messages for other handset users to be recorded, is also included.
The last 40 incoming calls are preserved in the memory of each handset, and up to 50 names and numbers can be stored in a telephone directory for easy retrieval, and identification of incoming callers. If an incoming number matches an entry in the directory, the name, as well as the number, of the caller is displayed. It is also possible to redial the numbers of any of the last 10 of your own, outgoing, calls. Call waiting is also supported, such that if you receive an incoming call while you are already on the phone, you are alerted by a soft, unobtrusive, beep in the earpiece. A choice of 5 different monophonic ring tones are available, and these can be selected, independently, for the base station and handsets. Ringer volume can similarly be adjusted to suit your own personal requirements, including the possibility of switching it off altogether.
BT Studio 3100
The BT Studio 3100, on the other hand, is very similar in design, and function, to the BT Studio 3500, with the obvious difference that an answering machine is not included. The BT Studio 3100 is fully switchboard, or PBX compatible, meaning that is well suited to business, as well as domestic, applications. Indeed, the BT Studio 3100 offers over 10 hours talk time, and over 150 hours standby time, on a single battery charge, and can be used within a range of approximately 50′ of a base station.
Low battery and out of range warnings are included, to make sure that you do not lose an important caller in the middle of a call. Earpiece volume control, along with ringer volume control, is again included, and a secrecy function allows you to talk to someone nearby without being overheard by a caller. Other useful features include the facility to “name” individual handsets – which may be useful, say, for individual users at work, or locations at home – a keypad lock, and the ability to turn handsets “on” or “off”, depending on their availability. The time of each call, along with basic clock and alarm information can be displayed, and you can even decide if you want your handset to beep, or not, when its buttons are pressed. A paging function can be useful in a business context and, once again, a choice of ringer melodies – 5 for the base station and 5 for the handsets – add a further degree of flexibility.
