Blackberry Bold 9700

The Blackberry Bold 9700 can actually bowl you over with its stylish features, compact crisp screen and its suave and smooth dynamics. Coming up from the previous version Bold 9000, this phone, also called Bold2, really does pack a punch.

Lighter, thinner and yet much much faster than its predecessor, it comes with a H-VGA screen with a very detailed resolution. The shrinkage in size also leads to cramping of a lot of space, making typing pretty tough for the beginners. On repeated handling you will come to accept that this is about the limit to which the keyboard can be shrunk without affecting the usability too much. It has a light sensing control system which is great for both conserving energy and making sure you can actually see the screen!

On the back it has a leather covering over battery area, which gives a pretty good feel. On the right edge, it has rubberised keys for controlling volume and for controlling the music player option. Further below that is a button to control the camera shutter. On the left side it has got programmable keys, with a wide range of options, a microSD card slot and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

The display is crystal clear. Considering the fact that the screen is only 2.44 inch (diagonal), it does not strain the eyes as much as you feel it would, because the Half- VGA brightness crammed into such a small place produces a rather clear image allowing you to see even the tiniest of detail on a text or an image. The powerful backlight facilitates reading even under dim conditions.

It is a 3G enabled phone which also supports Wi-fi. Although it comes with a meagre 256 MB internal memory it is bundled along with a 2 GB SD card and the slot supports a whopping 32GB card – far more than anyone could ever dream of using. With this particular phone, RIM (Research In Motion), the company responsible for blackberry phones, have done away with the ‘Trackball’ – an identifying feature of a blackberry. It has been replaced with an optical sensing pad, much like the system familiar to us with most laptops.

The 3.2 Mega Pixel camera comes with a LED flash which allows you to take decent pictures in low-lighting areas. It does produce a sharp and crisp image and the response time is around 1 second, which whilst not lightning is still around the industry average.

The battery is of high quality – with a stand-by time of 21 hours. It is actually the most efficient Blackberry when it comes to battery life.

On the whole The Blackberry 9700 is a very impressive piece of equipment. It’s 624 MHz processor makes it a seriously smooth operator. Plus points for its look and feel. Sturdy phone with an easy to use and friendly interface.
