Blackberry 8520 Curve

The Blackberry 8520 is categorised by most mobile retailers as being under the smart phone category and as such has a tough competition to be taking on form the likes of the Apple iPhone.

Whilst it doesn’t have a touch screen, it does have a touch sensitive optical track pad that makes it really enjoyable and easy to navigate the blackberry and we can smoothly scroll using it. The people who are accustomed to the old blackberry will find it odd at first but will soon come to find it useful and more responsive. This tracker ball is situated at the centre just below the screen.

On left side of this button, there is a key that opens up the menu of the phone. It is the same key that is present and used in many Blackberry phones earlier models had which are used to open the applications and menu so previous Blackberry owners will be well used to the set up and newer owners can appreciate it is a tried and tested system.

The right side of the touch sensitive optical track pad, there is a back key. On the right side of the back key is the call end button and pick up button on the extreme left. These keys together give a glassy and lustrous look to the phone.

But this lustrous look can be a hectic for some people who don’t like finger prints on their phone. The sleek look will bring lots of fingerprints along with it and will be a headache for the owner as they will be wiping these prints off their phones on a very frequent basis, but then such is the curse of all new phones these days – with shiny surfaces and glass touch screens so common place..

The Blackberry 8520 has a QWERTY keyboard but it is very interesting to use. Though keys are small, but they are slightly bulging which makes it easier for the fingers to find them without making a mistake, something that can be a real problem when you are using touch screen smart phones. Another plus point of this phone is its weight. It has 106g of weight which makes it extremely light to hold it in one’s hand. And when kept in pocket, won’t bother you since it is very light.

It has everything that was there in old phones. It has class 10, 236.8 kbps EDGE and Wi-Fi too but it doesn’t have 3G. It has 2 mega pixel camera but there is no flash or auto focus. There is music accessing keys on the top through which you can access it with minimum time delay. But this is not a smart phone designed for complex multimedia options, but one that gives a well designed phone that works on both a business and a personal level.

The screen size is an impressive (for a non touch screen phone) 2.46 inches with 320 x 240 pixels resolution. But it’s screen is TFT which gives great quality of images. It has 3.5mm jack which can be used to play music even on the speakers without the need of pins. Many types of instant messengers are there like google talk, yahoo messenger, etc but you can’t sign in to all at once – a problem that can be solved by downloading available applications from blackberry.

As compared to other blackberry phones, blackberry 8520 has better battery life and needs charging once in 3 days. It has standby time of up to 408 hours and talk time up to 4 hours and 30 minutes.
