Advent Milano Laptop

Advent is the manufacturer of budget computer hardware that aims to compete with far more expensive alternatives. This is a netbook computer, which means that it is extremely lightweight and ideal for using as a portable companion.

Inside is an Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. This is all crammed into a shell that is just under 3cm thick. The screen is a 10.2 inch LCD display and Windows XP home edition is installed and ready to use straight out of the box. Wi-Fi connectivity is built in and there is also an Ethernet port for wired networking.

Above the screen is a webcam which can also capture still images thanks to its 1.3 megapixel sensor and all of this weighs only 1.2kg.

The Milano is an ideal companion for a student or a commuter who wants to get online during a lunch break. The small size and wealth of connectivity options make it great for internet access, but its limited hardware mean it is not that good at more processor-intensive tasks such as gaming, multitasking or video editing. However, it is a specialised laptop that will perform exactly as its target audience expects.
