Acer Aspire Laptop Range Review
Acer has built up a great reputation and customer base, firstly as a desktop PC manufacturer but more recently as a laptop provider, offering power and value for money from their products, and the leading range of laptops they offer is the Aspire Range. The Acer Aspire range has become synonymous with offering a wide range of features and functionality all for incredible prices – just look at the table below. The Aspire Range covers a wide variety of specifications and styles, so we’ll be looking at the key laptops offered within the Acer Aspire Range.
Acer Aspire 5600 Series
The Aspire 5600 series laptops are designed to bring dual core processing to the laps of the masses. They feature the now popular dual core Intel Centrino Duo processors which have two physical cores allowing you to multitask and run several different programs and applications at once on your laptop without experiencing a reduction in system performance.
Dual core technology started out as a desktop PC phenomenon but now it has spread to the Aspire 5600 Range it can really improve the processing capabilities of a laptop computer. The 5600 Range also comes with built in Wi-Fi technology allowing you to connect to your home wireless broadband connection without having to purchase additional peripherals, and Windows XP Home edition is included to ensure that you can access all of the latest content and programs. Some laptops come with Windows Vista, but we’re still undecided at it’s long term viability so think carefully if you want Vista or XP.
Screen sizes range between 14 and 15 inches and all models are widescreen which makes the Aspire 5600 Range great for watching DVDs and movies on. Up to 1GB of fast RAM means that your processor won’t be crippled and hard drives of up to 120GB can be installed in your 5600. This makes the Aspire 5600 Range a versatile and powerful series of laptops.

Acer Aspire One
The Acer Aspire One range of laptops are designed to be as small and portable as possible yet still work well in the modern computing environment. Weighing only 1.26 kg and powered by the new Intel Atom processor series, the One is cheap and family friendly as well as light and portable, coming equipped with a generous 120GB hard drive and 512 meg of RAM, the 8.9 inch TFT display is clear and bright and the Linux operating system means it’s great for browsing the web and all of the other basic PC functions that you’d expect from a much more expensive machine.
You also get a 5 in 1 card reader built in and a built in camera which you can use to chat to your friends and family across the internet or to take a few snaps with. The battery can last you 3 hours and there’s built in Wi-Fi connectivity to boot.

Acer Aspire 7700 Series
The Aspire 7700 range is designed for the high end user who wants lots of media capabilities from their laptop as well as a powerful processor. It utilises the Intel Core 2 Duo range or the Intel Turion X2 dual core processors and is based on the Acer Gemstone design which incorporates modern styling with useful functionality and unifies some of the Aspire Range aesthetically.
A 17 inch widescreen display makes the 7700 series a great media centre laptop, ideal for watching movies and playing games, all of which is aided by the 2GB RAM (which can be increased on your request to a maximum of 4GB) and the 160GB hard drive for storing all your movies, music and picture files.
Windows Vista Home Premium comes pre-installed and you’ll love some of the new features it offers you on your Aspire 7700. A Multi-layer DVD and CD recorder optical drive means you can read, write and burn your files to DVD or CD at the fastest available speeds. These ranges are all extremely customisable and wide ranging in their specifications so it’s really easy to find the combination that’s right for you.

Acer Aspire 2900 Series
Combining the portability of the One series with the power of the 7700 and Gemstone series, the Acer 2900 provides mid-ranged power and compact size, the small form factor still packs much of the same technical clout as the larger 7700 and is aimed at the multimedia user who takes their laptop everywhere. A 12 inch TFT display capable of a 1280×800 resolution and also equipped with Acer’s Crystal Brite screen technology with 16.7 million displayable colours makes it a great all round package within a competitive price range.
